In this article, we will talk about sound problems and the possible solutions for that:
*************************
Problem: No Sound
*************************
First, when we face a problem in sound, we should look on the speakers, whether they work or not. We must check the following:
-1- Check the power LED. If it was off, check the electric cable. It the cable was in the wall and the LED does not function, this means that the transformer is burnt out. The transformer should be replaced by a new one. "Repair is required"
-2- Check whether the audio jack is connected properly?. If not, plug the 3.5mm stereo plug in the "green" jack in the sound card. If the problem was not solved, the audio cable may be destroyed or the problem might be in the system (will be discussed later in this article)
-3- Check the adjustments. Adjust the knobs for volume, bass, trible, ....
-4- Connect the speakers to a radio for example to check them
If you checked all of the above and the problem was not solved, the error is in the system. First we should deal with the sound card by doing the following steps.
-1- If the sound card was an independent card, check whether it is put well in the slots (PCI or ISA). Remove the card and clean the copper conductors by using special solvent.
-2- Check whether the card is recognized by your system "if there is a driver for it". To do that, open Device Manager by typing devmgmt.msc in Run. Collide "Sound, video, and game controllers". You should see the name of the sound card. If there was a yellow circle on it. This means that you should install/reinstall its driver. If you see a red X mark on it, this means that it is disabled, enable it by right clicking on it and clicking on "Enable"
-3- Check whether you have more that one sound card. Unlike VGA cards, you can't utilize 2 sound cards at the same time due to lack of resources. Disable one of them "Do not uninstall because at startup, the system will install it if its driver was included in Windows". Do not disable only the card name, but all its components, until the yellow mark on the other card disappears
If you checked all of the above and the problem was not solved, the error is in the system files. Apply the below.
-1- The "Windows Audio" service might be stopped. Open "Services" by typing services.msc in Run. Search for Windows Audio. If it was stopped, You will see blue "start" hyperlink on the left of the screen. Click on it to enable the service
-2- If you can't enable Windows Audio service, open System Configuration Utility by typing msconfig in Run. Click on Services then search for Windows Audio. If it was not checkmarked, check it and click on OK. "No need for restart". Then try to enable Windows Audio service from Services.
Also if all of the above steps did not work, probably the sound card is destroyed and you need to replace it. Maybe the problem is due to a malware (virus, worm, ...). Try to reinstall a "fresh" copy of Windows and not repairing it (Formatting and reinstalling Windows)
