Today, I will tell you a way to lock your computer after wrong attempts to log on to a password-protected account.
Open Run and type secpol.msc to open Local Security Settings
Collide Account Policies then click on Account Lockout Policy
On the right part of the window, you will see three policies. Double click on the second one "Account lockout threshold". Type the number of wrong attempts before the computer locks out. If you type 6 for example, the computer will be locked after 6 wrong attempts to open a password-protected account. Click on OK.
You will see a dialog box viewing 2 other policies that will change, click on OK
Then open the first policy "Account Lockout Duration". Here you type the duration of the lockout. For example, if you input 40, the computer will be locked for 40 minutes before letting you to try other "n" attempts.
In the third policy "Reset account lockout after". Here you set a duration so when it elapses, the wrong attemts return to 0. For example, if you set the duration to 20 minutes, and there was 2 wrong attempts and you still have 5 attempts, after 20 minutes, the wrong attempts will be 0 and you will have 7 attempts.
EXAMPLE:
Account lockout threshold: 5 attempts
Account Lockout Duration: 20 minutes
Reset account lockout after: 10 minutes
Here you have 5 attempts before the computer locks for 20 minutes. If there was 5 wrong attempts, the computer will be lcoked for 20 minutes. If you still have 2 attempts and you waited for 10 minutes, the wrong attempts will be 0 and you will have 5 attempts.
When the lockout duration elapses, you will have another 5 attempts
Logically, the Reset duration should be less that the lockout duration. Do not worry, if you make the reset duration more than that of lockout, the system will inform you so change it.
